Your files never leave your browser

Most “free OCR” sites upload your screenshots and documents to their servers. Your files are never uploaded to ours — the OCR engine and PDF parser run inside your browser with WebAssembly.

  • Works offline after the first load
  • No file uploads · no document content logged
  • Safe for contracts, IDs and invoices

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free? What’s the catch?

There is no catch. Because the processing happens on your device instead of on our servers, running this site costs almost nothing — so there are no limits, accounts or watermarks.

What can I extract text from?

Images (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF), screenshots pasted straight from the clipboard, and PDFs — including scanned PDFs, which are OCRed automatically page by page.

How is this different from other free online OCR tools?

Most online OCR sites upload your file to a server, meter you by page, and ask for an account once you go past the free tier. Here the recognition model is downloaded to your browser and runs there, so there is no upload, no page cap and nothing to sign up for.

Which languages are supported?

OCR reads printed English, German, French, Japanese and Korean, plus Chinese. PDF text-layer extraction works with any language the PDF contains.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It is a web page: the OCR models and PDF parser are downloaded once and then run inside the browser tab, so it also keeps working offline.
